Video communications solutions are helping educational institutions do more with fewer resources every day. To help U.S. schools and libraries take advantage of the next-generation of telecommunications services, the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) created the E-Rate program – providing $2.25 billion of funding annually to eligible schools and libraries.

What is E-Rate?

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 established the E-Rate program based on the belief that everyone should have access to advanced telecommunications services at a reasonable rate, regardless of their location. Administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) and awarded annually since 1998, the E-Rate program provides discounts for equipment and services between 20-90 percent, depending on economic need and population.

Am I eligible?

How do I apply?

The application process begins with the submission of a technology plan. Eligible schools, school districts, and libraries may apply individually or as part of a consortium. What's the submission timeline?

In order to obtain E-Rate discounts and funds, eligible institutions must be 100 percent E-Rate compliant and meet critical deadlines and specifications throughout the fiscal year. For a complete application schedule for 2011, reference the USAC's timetable and list of deadlines.
